Treasury Secretary Speaks at Annual Freedman’s Bank Forum

Attendees seek solutions to eliminate discrimination in banking, housing, and lending.

The Department of the Treasury hosted the 2023 Freedman’s Bank Forum last week. The gathering included state and local leaders who discussed how to help American minorities receive equitable economic access. The U.S. banking, housing, and lending industry has been under scrutiny for continued discrimination and forum attendees work each year to address the unique hurdles that minority communities experience within the economy.

“An economy that works for communities of color is an economy that works for all of us—fueling our economic strength and ushering in a better future,” Secretary of the Treasury Janet Yellen said. “I know those in this room—from state and local government officials, to business executives, to non-profit leaders—are committed to this shared vision.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For discernment for U.S. government officials as they assess the banking industry for discriminatory practices.
  • For Secretary Yellen as she advocates for equal economic treatment and opportunities for minority communities.
